I have a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. I could write and write about all of the things I’m thankful for, like my parents being here in Michigan with us for the holidays, or my Andrej and precious Kaiya, or good health, or our incredible church/ house church, or our wonderful family and friends around the world, but this Thanksgiving I am most thankful for the ability to forget. Let me explain.

On Halloween we took Kaiya in for her 15-month well baby check-up. I’m not sure what I was thinking when I scheduled that appointment on Halloween, knowing it would include shots, but in the end it was fine and Kaiya had no problems trick-or-treating. She weighed in at an unbelievable 26 lbs! I knew she was getting heavy, but 26 lbs is a lot of baby. Once again we forgot to ask what percentile that is, but I have a feeling she is topping the charts. She was just over 32” tall. Our doctor assured us that her appetite and weight gain will start to slow down over the next few months. The check-up concluded that Kaiya is healthy and right on target developmentally.

We started Halloween a day early by dressing up our little bear to attend a Halloween party at Andrej’s work. We soon realized Kaiya would be less than cooperative in getting into her attire. After lots of tears and wrangling body parts into the right, or sometimes wrong, hole, Andrej had the bright idea of finishing the process in front of a mirror so Kaiya could see how she was transforming into a bear. It worked like a charm and she calmed down and was soon pointing to herself saying, “beh, beh!” She LOVED the final accessory, a little pumpkin bag for collecting her (or our) treats. We all had a great time and the party and Kaiya loved looking at all the other little munchkins running around and dancing to the music. She scored animal crackers and play dough and of course a lot of chocolate for mom and dad.
